Vectors in a plane
Here is the blue vector the result of the red and the green vector added together.
It is possible to add vectors together or subtract them form each other. In physics addition and subtraction of vectors is used to determine the combined forces when several forces are working in different directions.
For example, a helicopter is affected by two forces: the force of the rotor blades lifting it up in the air, and the gravity pulling it down towards the ground.
Two vectors are added together by respectively adding the x-coordinates and the y-coordinates of both vectors:
The vectors are subtracted from each other in the same way.
