Circle

The Sagitta is the perpendicular line from a chords midpoint to the edge of the circle. You can also describe it as the height of an arc being made up of the circles periphery and defined by the chords endpoints.

The sagittal length (s) can be determined with the following formula:


s=r*(1-cos(frac{alpha}{2}))

where r = radius and α = angle at the center point.
